Simulation of integrated surface-water/ground-water flow and salinity for a coastal wetland and adjacent estuary

چکیده
The SWIFT2D surface-water flow and transport code, which solves the St Venant equations in two dimensions, was coupled with the SEAWAT variable-density ground-water code to represent hydrologic processes in coastal wetlands and adjacent estuaries. A sequentially coupled time-lagged approach was implemented, based on a variable-density form of Darcy’s Law, to couple the surface and subsurface systems. The integrated code also represents the advective transport of salt mass between the surface and subsurface. The integrated code was applied to the southern Everglades of Florida to quantify flow and salinity patterns and to evaluate effects of hydrologic processes. Model results confirm several important observations about the coastal wetland: (1) the coastal embankment separating the wetland from the estuary is overtopped only during tropical storms, (2) leakage between the surface and subsurface is locally important in the wetland, but submarine ground-water discharge does not contribute large quantities of freshwater to the estuary, and (3) coastal wetland salinities increase to near seawater values during the dry season, and the wetland flushes each year with the onset of the wet season. q 2005 Elsevier B.V. Geometric simulation and the salinity of water entering to the Hoor al-Azim wetland for determine the capacity of drainage water
Hoor al-Azim wetland, are a large and permanent wetland area located between Iran and Iraq. By entering the flow to the wetland area, the geometry of the wetland, acts in the form of an inverted imperfect pyramid. So that by entering the water flow, the water level of wetland is simultaneous by increasing the surface. In this study by using the geometric relationships of pyramids, was acted t...
متن کاملHydrologic and vegetative removal of Cryptosporidium parvum, Giardia lamblia, and Toxoplasma gondii Surrogate microspheres in coastal wetlands.
Constructed wetland systems are used to reduce pollutants and pathogens in wastewater effluent, but comparatively little is known about pathogen transport through natural wetland habitats. Fecal protozoans, including Cryptosporidium parvum, Giardia lamblia, and Toxoplasma gondii, are waterborne pathogens of humans and animals, which are carried by surface waters from land-based sources into coa...
متن کاملShrimp Culture Impact on the Surface and Ground Water of Bangladesh
A case study was carried out to see the impacts of shrimp culture on the surface (pond) and ground water (tube-well) quality in three coastal sub-districts of Bagherhat Sadar, Rampal and Morrelganj of Bangladesh. The people of Rampal (100%), Morrelgonj (87.5%) and Bagherhat (75.5%) expressed that salinity of both surface and ground water increased after shrimp culture, and water becomes more tu...

In this paper, sensitivity experiments are carried out to examine the plume and the asso...
متن کاملA Model of Non-Stationary Time-Series to Predict Surface Salinity Off-Shore the Columbia River
The Columbia River discharge plays a central role in North-East Pacific Ocean coastal ecosystem dynamics. A model is developed to predict non-stationary surface-salinity time-series in the North Pacific Ocean off-shore the Columbia River. The model takes wind velocities and Columbia River discharge as inputs only. Wind velocities are converted to smoothed wind stresses which are then integrated...
